For once I had time on a family visit back to South Wales to wander back to my old haunts and look one of my "roots" pastimes of taking photographs. Back in the late 70's I used to trawl around the valleys and take black and white photographs of the collieries and the coal industry.
Jayne's dad worked all his life down the Hafodyrynys & Glyntillery Pit and then Celynen North. The images of the surface working were so evocative and now it seems so strange that the landscape is missing these critical landmarks. Only Penallta's headgear seem to show what it all used to look like as Big Pit is so tidy and tourist friendly. All the pits I took pictures of were absolutely cluttered and chaotic when they were being worked. I also found it strange for the first time that my Welsh homeland no longer looked like it used to, as I remember it, with all the valley roads improved and using the the old railways, it was really strange to drive through.
Enjoy the old and the new pictures
So once again we strolled along to the Hare N Hounds and once after a while I seemed to have the "yips" or "camera shake" occur .. and it got steadily worse during the day ? So very strange .. normally my pics are pin-sharp but where beer comes into play things go awry n' pear shaped .. another great day good beer, good food and great company
Well, the last 3 months have proved to be busy and very engaging
A long trip and very busy road trip to North East of England an then the very north west of Scotland provided wonderful new landscapes and extraordinary weather views scenes : Sun Snow Mist Rain Frost Fog : You name it we had the 4 seasons almost everyday. Wester Ross and Skye providing stunning backdrops with quirky scenes from Whitby and Lindisfarne.
This year has been a slow start year : the long winter and the cold spring seemed to dampen my enthusiasm
but April and May have been much busier : First off our work at Brighton Speed Trials with two publications featuring our photographs
The first is http://www.motoringclassics.co.uk/magazine.aspx
We feature in the SUMMER edition with one of our classic mini start-line shots
More news next month including classic Scottish Landscapes
So finally its Christmas Eve and all involved at RWCS have been taking stock on what has been a busy year. See the end of year mashup below. 2012 seems to have a very" motorsport " year which seems to mean we are going back to where I started 30 years ago : Goodwood Festival was a particular highlight with a really special day and then the fun and games in Texas gave us a real contrast to our UK events
Then I finished off with a return to Dungeness with some more haunting pictures from this special place.
My involvement with PLUS now has reached a critical phase as the UK is now at the centre of picture licensing services and exchange developments ref the Linked Content Coalition see here for more info
so best wishes and good luck for 2013

September News : Normally September is one of our busy Motorsport events months with Brighton , Goodwood and the odd Hill climb : However the first event provides grim news.Sadly by the end of the day on Sat 8th Sept. Roger Hollingshead has been critically injured and his sidecar passenger Charlotte Tagg killed as their sidecar rig failed to stop at the end of the track on Madeira Drive, and smashing into a barrier with tragic consequences. All at Brighton and Hove Motor Club and the Vintage Motorcycle Club are in shock with messages of condolence being made at both clubs Facebook pages.
Our coverage of the event is available as usual but as result of the tragedy it is a sad but timely reminder to us all that

Well I think it's summer but at Goodwood 2012 you'd think it was Easter!
After the success of Crystal Palace, it was Goodwood Festival of Speed time for Saturday 30th June : This years RWCS activity for Goodwood was back to the old school and RALLY focussed. I had been invited to spend the Saturday with the KICK RALLY Steve Perez Team, < Steve was 2010 BTRDA Champion > : with Paul Spooner, a fellow Welshman and a lifelong friend. Paul is Steve P's regular co-driver / Navigator and over the last 5 years has competed in many rallies with Steve all over the globe. He was my first navigator on the Tour of Eppynt rally < our 1st proper rally > some 30 years ago in my Mini Cooper Clubman 1430 S , another long story , and yes we did finish, just .....
Indeed it was Paul's rally contacts which enabled me to be co-driver for a stage run in LAR 800P Roger Clark's Cossack Escort with its owner Andrew Siddall : I really enjoyed the run with Andy, who gave me proper " let's have a go shall we" run through the twisting and technical rally stage designed by Hannu Mikkola, with me "Grinning'" all the way through the stage.
The last time I saw this car I was as a mere 17 year old spectator at the 1975 Lombard RAC Rally in Hafren and then it just got better, I turned around and there standing next to me was Hannu Mikkola himself. Steve P has one of the 2 remaining original short wheel base Audi Quattro, so for Paul his day was made as he partnered Hannu in the Perez Audi Quattro Sport around the rally stage
So it all become one of those " Just a great day" situations < bucket list stuff really> and with access to the top paddock where we had prime spot to watch all the fun and games as the cars came up the hill from the main arenas and paddock. : Seb Vettel doing a donut burnout 15 ft from where Paul and I were standing .. Amazing ..... see here RED BULL DONOUT burnout. and also chatted with Jensen Button , Alain Prost , John Surtees and Sammy Miller. Name dropper .. well I couldn't resist that for once.
So a day I'll not forget for a very long time
